As the final preparations for the Andrews Midsomer Norton Illuminated Carnival come together, the organisers have announced a strong line-up of Carnival Clubs and their floats which will illuminate the town on Monday 14th November.
Carnival club entries include Shambles, Hot Rock, Huckyduck, Gemini and King William as well as local clubs Luckington and Mardons. Themes vary from The Great Fire of London to Phantom of the Opera. There are also many individual and groups of Masqueraders which look set to make a great Carnival line-up for 2016.
Also this week every house in Midsomer Norton will be receiving a copy of the 18 page colour Illuminated Carnival Programme, produced by Ignyte Media which highlights how far the event has come in terms of professionalism. This mammoth undertaking, involving the delivery of over 5000 copies, has been achieved thanks to the support of over 40 local businesses and corporate sponsors Andrews, Wickes, Farrington Farm Shop, The Somer Valley Chamber and Edwards Opticians.
Meanwhile, last week’s Carnival Royalty heat in Radstock saw the crowning of this year’s latest winners. Radstock Carnival Queen was Kimberley Darling age 13 from Midsomer Norton, Radstock Carnival Prince was Jack Wyatt age 5 from Radstock and Radstock Carnival Princess was Emily-May Darling age 7 from Midsomer Norton.
The next Carnival Royalty heat will be for Midsomer Norton Carnival Royalty at Midsomer Norton Town Hall this Friday 28th October at 7pm. Entry to the competition to become District Carnival Queen, King, Prince and Princess for Midsomer Norton for the next 12 months is free. There will be two age entry categories 5-9 years and 10-18 years. On arrival, entrants will be asked to complete a form (with a parent/guardian if under 16) and will be given a number to be called up and answer three questions relating to why they would make a good member of Carnival Royalty. A panel of judges will select the four winners and at the end of the evening these will be announced.
